Hi folks. Speaking about freestyle and depending on the conditions I usually match boards and kites the traditional way: big board/big kite, medium board/medium kite, small board/small kite. Sometimes, especially in marginal conditions, I break this rule choosing a big board even if I go out with a medium size kite. That's why I was so curious to test the new Flysurfer Unity 12 DLX that I couldn't resist the temptation to give it a go even in low wind conditions. The chance eventually materialized a few days ago as the wind wasn't strong enough here in the center of Italy. The "ponente" (west thermal wind) was blowing from 9 to 12 Knots when I took my Flyboards Flydoor XL 2011 and, of course, the new Unity 12 DLX. At first I was skeptical about the possibility to go with such a poor wind. When I lifted it my doubts where even worst. The bar was so light that I didn't feel a great pull. But I went out, I powered the Unity and....bam! I was planning staying upwind effortlessy! After a couple of minutes it was "party" time. I just started to do some tricks and the kite responded so well to my bar input that I completed all the "hooked in" tricks in the books in such low wind. The Unity is a real toy to fly: it represents a perfect mix between a LEI and a foil and in a certain way it feels like the Naish Park of the same size. It is also plug and play, it requires no trimming like for example the Psycho 4 12 DLX. As I mentioned the pull is not like a Speed 3 but it can generate a lot of apparent wind simply moving it. When the wind increased a little bit I was able to "park and ride". The lift is good and the hangtime remarkable. The kite is pretty fast and despite the lightness of the bar the feedback about is position is always excellent. So I'm very happy with it . Here's a short video about the session:
